Client Story
Derek, 26
Change manager + part time dance instructor · Lost 20kg
Before Coaching
Derek had been trying to lose weight for years. He'd tried restrictive diets, cutting carbs, supplements and fat loss shakes. Each time he'd lose a few kilos, eventually put them back on, and then start the whole process again.
After going through that cycle enough times, it started affecting more than just his weight.
He'd stopped wearing the clothes he wanted to wear and started pulling back from social things because he didn't feel comfortable in himself.
It was affecting his dancing too. Dancing was something he loved and did for a living, but it was getting harder as he became less comfortable and confident in his body.
He'd spent years trying to lose weight. He just hadn't found a way of doing it that he could actually keep up.
During Coaching
A lot of the early work was helping Derek unlearn what years of dieting had taught him.
He'd spent a long time thinking certain foods were good and others were bad, so we started bringing back the foods he'd been avoiding and taught him how to track his calories and manage his portions instead.
Derek loves food and enjoys eating out, so we built that into things from the beginning rather than asking him to give it up.
His training was focused on getting stronger and building muscle while still supporting his dancing. And because he also spent a lot of time sitting for work, we got him a walking pad so he could stay active throughout the day without having to find extra time for it.
The goal wasn't to give him another diet he could follow for a few months. It was to teach him how to eat and train in a way he could actually see himself continuing.
After Coaching
Derek has lost 20kg, and he's comfortable and confident in his body again.
He's wearing the clothes he wants to wear, he has more energy, and dancing feels like something his fitness supports now rather than something his body is holding him back from.
That's carried into other parts of his life too. He's had two promotions at work, he's teaching dance and has started running his own group.
He's even training for his first half marathon, which was never something he originally set out to do. It came from getting fitter and realising he was capable of more than he thought.
Most importantly, the cycle he spent years stuck in has stopped. He's not losing weight just to put it back on and start again.
He understands how to manage his food, his training and his lifestyle well enough to know how to keep the results this time.
